The BIT students needed pixel art to build their games in class. As part of my studies, I was tasked to create a tile set using pixel art for these students.
LOOKING OUTSIDE
I looked at the tile sets that were used in games, and found that the environment is a central theme. I wanted to break away from this nature and Earth subject, and extend it ‘out of this world’, to other planets. With Neptune’s blue appearance, I expected a cold feeling but my first attempt was quite the opposite offering warmth instead. I continued with warmth, using Mercury and Mars but it did not work out.
FEELING ICY
The icy cold made a strong impression, so I decided to focus on a more literal meaning - and what is more icy than ice itself.
I put together a set of 30 tiles that resembles an icy, cold environment.
